| Maryland Deathfest VI |
[27 May 2008|11:21am] |
On early Friday morning last week, I woke up early, showered and sat around until Dan came to pick me up. We were about to embark on an epic fucking adventure with 4 other dudes (eventually) which would end up being a ridiculously awesome weekend beyond all reason or logic. He picked me up at 9, I brought my bag and backpack with all the stuff I'd need, and a stack of CDs, still in jewel cases, to place in a CD binder of his. Sitting in the car, I filed all the CDs away and cluttered the back seat with their cases. It then began.
We got about halfway to Billerica via Rt. 3 when I pulled out my ticket to show Dan that I had it so later if I lost it he could vouch that I had it. He instead replied "...shit, dude...we gotta go back." I facepalmed, then called Nick and told him we'd be 40 or so minutes late because Dan left his ticket at home. We drove to his house and got it (and a box of Cheddar Jack Cheez-Its) and continued our quest to pick up Nick.
Eventually in Arlington, we got Nick, threw in some Wormed, and started our journey to Baltimore, Maryland to meet up with 3 other metal fans on a message board Nick and I go to. We drove for a while before hitting a few rest stops, lots of traffic, etc. and played a shitload of death metal in the meantime. It was epic and we felt really enthusiastic about the upcoming shows we'd be seeing. We stopped at another rest stop to get lunch from Nathan's Hot Dogs, and just chilled for a while, then played Galaga (heh), then left.
Eventually, about 40 minutes later than we would have liked, we reached Baltimore and needed to get our bearings (find the hotel/find parking/find the venue, basically). We missed a turn and took a ramp instead, which was kind of funny, but eventually found our way and parked in the venue parking lot. We all met up inside, watching the band Ingrowing play a good set of grinding death metal. We eventually reconvened at the hotel, which was fucking awesome, and met each other personally and hung out before returning to the venue. We also parked Dan's car at the hotel parking garage, which was automated. Squash Bowels was awesome that night also. Nick, Dan and I missed the last couple bands if I remember right because we were fucking tired and wanted to sleep. I also bought a ton of merch the first day, which was intermittently had to go back to the hotel to drop off (well, we all got tons of shit, actually).
Early Saturday morning, Dan and I woke up before everyone else and went to get some food for the hotel at a local grocery store right up the street. It was the weirdest grocery store either of us had ever been to. Fucking abstractly laid out and shit...not just typical aisles and all that. Really fuckin' weird. Anyway, we got breakfast for the next few days and went back to the hotel to find people waking up. We went out for lunch soon after. Most of the guys got Subway, so we all followed. A dude in there from Germany commented on my Devourment shirt and I thought he was insulting me (I perceived it as him calling it a "girlie" shirt, but really I think he was wondering where I got a non-girlie-sized version of it). I was just like "uh...I got it online." Then we went to McDonald's and heard a homeless guy say "I may be bipolar, but I ain't crazy!" This McD's had two floors, which was confusing but extremely awesome for some unnameable reason. We all ate our food up there and went back to the show after.
We got back at the end of Kalibas, who sounded pretty lame, and saw some of Waco Jesus, who was also lame. Eventually, Anthony (Saunders) found me and we hung out for the first of 2-3 times over the next day and a half. We went back for Defeated Sanity, who were fucking amazing, and after them I bought their tour shirt. It was being sold in a little corner of the main venue room, and a lot of people missed out on getting one, which sucks for them because it rules hard and will probably be a little rare now. I seriously had like 3-4 people ask me where I got mine, ha! We went to get dinner after DS, missing Flesh Parade, and marched off to the closest Chinese food restaurant. We decided to go to the hotel to ask the people at the front desk where a close Chinese food place is, and it was dang close (few blocks), so we went. Inside, we all got dinner meals (General Tso's Chicken ftmfw, even though the portion was retardedly huge) and an old guy talked to us and it was sort of unsettling and creepy. So we left when he was sitting down and finished our food in the hotel.
We made it back to the venue in time for the last couple Disfear songs. Coffins, up next, was fucking awesome and really got everyone going. I regret not getting any of their shirts or CDs but I suppose I will in the future if I ever get another chance, because they really ruled. Fuck...I'm Dead was right after, and after a quick trip to the various rooms of stuff to buy, Nick and I returned and watched them do an awesome show which was surprisingly very much like their album stuff (and they had a live drummer!). We kind of skipped out on Ghoul and Monstrosity, instead hanging out with Anthony again and chilling at the hotel. We went back for Anaal Nathrakh who killed. However, I got really tired about halfway through and walked out to take a break. I ran into Barrett of Sevared Records who I met earlier the other day and we chatted for a bit, then I went and hung out outside with Ryan.
Sunday I woke up earlier than anyone else, so I went out to 7/11 to get a quick snack and drink. I returned intact to the hotel with my Vitamin Water and taquito and waited til everyone woke up. We went to get some lunch at McD's again and another weird dude talked to us the whole time and it was fucking annoying. We then went to catch Infected Malignity. Nick and I went up front and rocked the hell out, these guys ruled. They ruled so hard, in fact, that their set convinced Nick and I to buy their newest EP and a shirt. And Nick doesn't even like deathcore stuff (which they became after the first album). Good times, heh. We hung out with Anthony again for the next while, and also chilled at the hotel, then came back for Gruesome Stuff Relish, who ruled. Then we got dinner at Subway and came back for Dead, who also were awesome. During their set, I started a small pit with Dan and got subsequently thrown on the ground, which was hilarious because it was by a guy with a Mayhem shirt on; he must have been too grim to mosh or have physical contact. Some people...anyway, good stuff, and we stayed for Impaled and Dying Fetus. Being very tired by then, I retired to sitting near the side then found my friends at the end. We went back to the hotel and slept until like 6 the next morning, when we left.
We ended up getting free fucking parking because the gate was UP! Epic win, so we were in good spirits and hit the road in the same mood. We had a very easy home trip, hitting no traffic at all. I drove some of the way after we stopped for a quick bite to eat around 9:30 or so and had Dan drive the rest near Connecticut because I was really fucking wiped out and didn't want to kill us all in a car crash (good choice I think). We got back to Nick's house, hung out there for a few minutes, then Dan drove me home.
...epic win. Next year again!

Been playing Magic: The Gathering again recently. School's FUCKING DONE! Also, started a D&D campaign; dunno how long that'll last, but I'm DMing and make up some crazy fucking random shit that I pretend has a semblance of storyline...heh. MDF IN 4 DAYS.

| AAAAAAAAAAND back again...maybe? |
[05 May 2008|07:43pm] |
I hate writing in this shit now because I am in college and never have time, but here's the rundown.
Classes this semester/year end NEXT. FUCKING. WEDNESDAY. God fucking damn yes I'm psyched. And after that I have a show I've booked which I may or may not be playing, and MDF THE FUCKING WEEK AFTER, FUCK YES.
Now I just need to finish my shitty final projects and shit.
Blech.
But...it's so close to being done, I'm...ecstatic.
College does rule though.
Fuck.
Awesome.
Peace.

| Epic long times between posts FOR THE LOSE(?) |
[07 Mar 2008|10:14pm] |
So yeah I am back and updating again but really just about today.
Woke up feeling crap because I had to go to the bank/post office. Skipped the bank and mailed what I could with what I had (not much at all). Felt like crap again. Then went home and sat around before going to Dugan to work on my collaborative installation project with my partner. We kind of don't really know what the hell we're doing but I'm assuming it will all come out pretty well in the end, so oh well. Then I went to my grandma's and talked about the house she bought for the last few weeks of August in Maine, so that makes me pretty fucking psyched to hang out up there with the cousins in the Summer! Then went home and hung around til we went to the mall. I just really went along for the ride, but it was good because I did/got some cool shit. These include buying a Game Boy Camera for ONE DOLLAR (wtf awesomesauce), getting the best ever chili dog (at Orange Julius, what?!) and having my parents buy my poor self a blacklight for the aforementioned project.
So yeah. Now I am slightly more content than I was before. Now I just need a Game Boy Camera-to-computer thing or a Printer so I can do some cool ass shit. Viva old-school! I remember when those were sooo fucking cool and cost like 150 bucks. Brutal.
Tomorrow I work like 9 hours. Longest shift I have worked in a long time, perhaps ever? Gay. But awesome too I guess. Money rules.
Next weekend is my birthday also. WAT

An update on my life...!
I go back to school in around a week and a half. Not looking forward to 8 AM classes M-Th but whatever, I have Fridays off. I'll probably have to work on those days, but whatever...need money badly.
Now it's snowing out and I'm listening to Arckanum again...best music ever for watching the snow fall...and that sounds fucking cheesy but it really is. Speaking of Arckanum, the copies of his re-releases I pre-released on Christmas should be here within the next week, I'm so fuckin' excited...they're pretty limited edition and just overall awesome. Seems like Full Moon Productions really pulled out the stops on it, which is part of the reason I'm pumped...
I've been pretty addicted to selling/buying on eBay lately...and I've managed to move a few copies of some new Ichorous releases. And on that same subject, I secured a sort of distribution deal with Japanese noise distro Molehill...Kotomi let me know that whenever a new release comes out by me, she'll take a few copies and send me some money to cover wholesale + postage, so that makes me pretty fucking happy too. I sent her 3 copies each of my new 3" and semi-new (Sept/Oct 07) tape and she sold out in a few days. Ridiculous. Some crazy Asian collectors now have copies of my work. Makes me kind of proud, I guess that's what it feels like to be an artist/musician? Feels nice, I'd like more stuff like that to happen!
Made some good hauls over the last couple days...here's a list (most do not include postage; this is partially for my own reference to keep track of how ridiculously I spend/what I purchase altogether, but also to show off things to my imaginary friends):
Vomit Remnants - Supreme Vehemence CD (collection of their full-length and EP; $5) Deathevokation - The Chalice Of Ages CD ($8.88) Teen Cthulhu - Ride The Blade CD ($5) Aversion To Life - Ritualized Murder CD ($6) Brodequin - Festival Of Death CD ($5.50) Lesbian - Power Hor CD (A FUCKING PENNY BITCHES) Vomit The Soul - Promo 2007 + small t-shirt ($22 incl. postage) Thirdorgan/Government Alpha - Split 7" + CD ($4) Lasse Marhaug - If The Revolution Could Start Right Now one-sided 7" ($6 incl. postage)
As for Slam-Minded, Nick and I have some good things planned for this, the new year of 2008! We have some interviews, namely with Devourment (wtf the fucking gods of slam!), Embryonic Depravity and Barrett (the dude who runs Sevared Records, which is an awesome label)*. We're also going to be doing a ton of new reviews (Nick bought a bunch of shit he needs to listen and jot notes down on) and a sort of "everything you needed to know about slam death in 2008 but never bothered to find out" update including who's putting out what, what bands are getting signed where, who the FUCK Decaying Purity is and why the FUCK are they so fucking awesome (they seriously are!), and of course the first great slam album of the year, the mighty Abominable Putridity (kind of an Abominable Snowman joke there, I confess) with their full-length In The End Of Human Existence. But for now...just check out what we have recently.
I think that's it...and now I'm sick of typing in this.
*confirmed yesterday!

[26 Dec 2007|07:32pm] |
I had a pretty great Christmas...hope everyone who possibly reads this did also.
Got this stuff initially:
Hickory Farms pack for breakfast New portfolio for next semester Couple large sketch/charcoal pads Tekken: Dark Resurrection (PSP) Next by Michael Crichton 50 Artists You Should Know About (only 5 of which are any good) The Complete Drawing & Painting Laptop carrying case Slipper socks Leather jacket Various other clothes
Eventually got more stuff, including TONS of fucking gift cards which I mainly spent already (online and off)...
Amazon.com haul (~$50 bucks):
...and Oceans - The Dynamic Gallery Of Thoughts Carnage - Dark Recollections (original) In-Quest - Epileptic Octinomos - Fuckhole Armageddon Viogression - Expound & Exhort (original) Oppressor - Solstice Of Oppression (original) Cipher System - Central Tunnel Eight ...then I pre-ordered the three Arckanum reissues from Full Moon Productions for $35 or so.
Went to the post office earlier today to mail a bunch of shit, and went to the mall with Kevin...it was pretty insane (day after Christmas and all), and both Gamestop stores were out of Disgaea: Afternoon Of Darkness, which I fucking desperately wanted, so we eventually called it quits...but I got the bright idea to try across the street at the other random Gamestop there (wtf?) and they had ONE. COPY. LEFT. Fucking awesome! So I picked it out and stood in line for fucking 20 minutes (played Tekken in line though, so it was OK, heh) to get my prized game (which I'm playing now and happy as a proverbial clam). We went to KFC after, where I paid for both of our meals with gift checks I received from my grandmother. We then wanted to go to Best Buy because he had a $50 gift card, but the line to even park was ridiculous, so we said forget it. We then turned around and headed to Borders, where I looked around for a bit (and amusingly bumped into my parents who were out at the same time) and eventually settled on the enwest issue of Photoshope User magazine. I then drove Kevin home and have been playing Disgaea on PSP ever since.

Listening to ritualistic black metal while playing Disgaea and watching the snow fall outside = amazing experience...fuck!
Also, I'm done class...forgot to mention that. Also amazing.

I finished my Christmas shopping today...went with my dad pretty early to the mall. Got my sister a fuckin' Webkinz...what a ripoff! Heh, but it's fine cuz I'm done now, and I feel relieved...otherwise I did nothing else today.

Had to shovel today, even my grandma's back porch and stairs. It wasn't too bad though, better than last night I suppose...we're apparently getting friggin' dumped on tonight though, so that's uh...not cool? I've been playing Disgaea again otherwise, and I went to the mall with Kevin to buy some Christmas presents for people, but unfortunately found nothing so we went to Newbury Comics and I found some sweet shit there, like the Ummagumma 2CD Pink Floyd album with a poster and shit. Badass.

[13 Dec 2007|03:53pm] |
Snowing a shit-ton right now, so I'm pretty psyched. No class tomorrow either. Pretty much done school...just an in-class essay Monday and an Ethics paper due then too. Not bad.
Now I'm chilling, playing Disgaea 2 and listening to music. Life's good.

[10 Dec 2007|10:50pm] |
One...more...final to do for art classes, then it's just a blue book essay and a take home for Ethics. Fuck yes. Only problem is tomorrow I have to do 4 more 12x15 inch paintings in a series I'm working on...that'll complete the art finals though, which I'm happy about.
It was a pretty weird day today, Josh wasn't in Concepts so no one went to Hess with me for my daily 69 cent red Vault (and extremely bad for me cheese/beef Slim Jim thing which I deemed my lunch)...I got a little preliminary work done in the class though (dunno how much I would've done if Josh had been there, so...eh!) which I finished up around 4-5 hours ago in a frenzy of ideas and inspiration. And paint mess.
Last night I got an e-mail from my Writing prof saying I was to come on Thursday to a meeting in which I am to be recognized as one of the students representing their classes for the Common Text Essay Program (my teacher nominated one of my essays for it because she thought it ruled I guess, and it pretty much did). I hope I win, because if I do, I get a hefty gift certificate to the campus bookstore. But even if I don't, I can put on my resume that I am an awesome writer...or something.
Other things I have to do this weekend are...Wednesday, I have to go after class to North to get Pat to give me like 8 intern hours because he thinks I rule...then I have to study for the DJ test Thursday after classes at like 2 or 3. Then that night is pizza and the aforementioned writing thing where I will hopefully win. Then I am basically on winter break.

The very grandparent I originally began this journal writing about a few times has recently passed away. Saturday morning to be exact. I was in Maine but I cried half the night when I heard (Friday night before midnight I was told over the phone by my mom and dad he would probably be gone soon). I felt bad that I couldn't be with him as he left us, but I felt close to him even though I wasn't physically.
Today is the wake, tomorrow is the funeral. I'm trying now to celebrate the life he lived as he still will live on in my memory and everyone else's whom he knew.

| Yikes...long time no fuckin' talks... |
[18 Nov 2007|12:25am] |
Guess I'll start with Thursday. Woke up with a fucking horrible feeling in my mouth at like 6:30. Couldn't really figure it out, so I just went to class and eventually realized it felt like the left and right sides of my tongue were burning. As in, it felt like I just went "oh ok got my fuckin hot water right here there we go and UMPH ouch hey that is scalding my mouth what the fuck!" So, fast forward to Friday morning; before class, went to the doctor and got it diagnosed. LOOKS LIKE A VIRUS I GUESS. That's the report I got for the most part. Was told it'd go away. Went to class, and Greg + everyone in the van gang went to the MFA in Boston. Good times, rockin' out to Necrophagist on the way home, Greg doing the arm-over-your-head-as-I-walk-by trick to multiple (confused) people on the streets (and one slightly angry emo looking douchefag), and general art appreciation and "hmm" posturing. Like I said...times ist good.
When I got back to the college and went home, I immediately remembered; fuck, my mouth is in some pains. Decided to take a nap. Yeah, no. Well, I did, but it was like an hour and a half and was interrupted by some cocksucking "gangsta" kids across the street. And to make things worse, when I woke up, it felt like I had re-burned my goddamn mouth ALL THE HELL OVER AGAIN. Brutal brutality...I'm tellin' you. Do NOT get the virus that makes your mouth catch on fire and promptly extinguish leaving you with white painful bumps and pain. With a side order of pain. And discomfort.
Luckily when I woke up this morning I felt...well, pretty fucking fine. The white spots (ov death) were all but gone, a few remained, but as Demilich says, pretty much pieces of nothingness, so I digress. Decided to go to Boston to meet Ashley and Missy (and eventually Tim) to sort of recount last year's epic summertime adventure, only in the fall/winter and with deadly winds fiercely raping our faces the fuck off. Once again...brutal brutality. I can't catch a break lately or so it seems or something. We wandered to Tim's dorm which was rather lame (sorry man) then went to the Cheesecake Factory which is a silly name for a restaurant which is really neither a cheesecake nor a factory, nor a combination thereof. Sure there's cheesecake, but it's not like industrially packaged and...yeah, whatever. Got a buffalo chicken thing, it was pretty satisfying. But fuck I don't like cheesecake. Something about it rubs me the wrong way. It might just be that I'm apparently still 6 years old and find the names of things to turn me off from the actuality of them.
After this I think we went to the top of the building or something somewhere, and it's called like the top of the hub I guess maybe...sorta. I don't fucking know, whatever. It was very...chic...and comparably gay. That's not how I roll at all, so I attempted to hurry the ushering of the leaving of the place of the chic...things. View was nice though...lots of buildings.
Rest of the time was spent wandering aimlessly, finding bargains (Pan-Thy-Monium for 7 bucks!) at Newbury Comics on Newbury Street (noweigh!1!), eating Cold Stone ice cream (godly), and attempting to wait for Rachael Ray for her fucking book signing at the local Barnes & Noble (and seeing a homeless dude steal women's clothing and get caught by the cops and some asshole firefighter sweatshirt guy taking goddamn pictures of him while the cops interrogated him, fuck people like that!). We didn't see the (not) fabulous Ray Ray, but we...just kinda left. And then I went home soon after.
Now I need to catch up on sleep, dump this cold I randomly have after the dreaded tongue disease, and work tomorrow I guess if I don't feel like ass.
Bye LJ...may it be another few months before I speak with you again, you lousy bastard.

Today was awesome...that is because it did not consist of me sitting on my ass all day in the house (though that is fun too). After classes, we wandered around McGauvran and were let down by the "Master's Gaming Konnection" which was pretty lame looking, then Jason drove us to my house and dropped Kevin and I off. We then transferred to my car and went to Kevin's house to play Gunstar Heroes until I had to go down to the UML radio studio and go to a meeting for new interns. Browsing their selection of metal was fuckin' sweet...there's gonna be so much shit for me to rip, I'm gonna run out of space instantly...damn, seriously. Awesome. They even had a copy of Morpheus Descends' Chronicles Of The Shadowed Ones (which, as some metalheads may know, was never publicly released, making it extremely fucking KVLT to have in their archives...I am probably going to delete the mp3s I have of it and re-rip it just to say I did!)...so cool. Then I hung out in the studio with the guys from Sexcrement, who were pretty cool (pity they're really immature in lyrics/etc., but the music is decent enough, and they're local, so yeah)...then I got back in my car which was parked in a shady fucking part of town, and drove to "Cake Thursday" which i missed the cake part of, so it was just "hang out with friends for an hour then drive home Thursday." But it was fuckin' fun(ny) so that's fine. Saturday I think we'll probably do some more epic hangout shit, which is always hilarious/awesome with my friends. Tomorrow, Greg and the rest of us bastards are going to the Peabody-Essex museum to wreak havoc and...I guess to study art? I dunno...whatever!

College has been fun, kind of tiring, but more satisfying than high school. I feel like I'm actually learning. It's pretty sweet. I have a lot of fucking free time, but I've been keeping busy with friends (Friday night I had the car + no parents home, so we went to the mall then to grab a bite and randomly Cosmic Bowling, then a few of us ended up at my house until 4 in the morning playing Wii...heh), video games (I got a PSP and I've been trying to downgrade it to 1.5 then update it with CFW, but Bryan (my cousin) and I have been encountering some trouble; I've just been playing the other games I have for it now...Aedis Eclipse: Generation Of Chaos owns), and waiting to see Ashley again (yeah, the frequency of visits isn't as much as I thought it'd be in college...I have no money, really, either). Ah well. Got a show this Friday. Psyched...

Fuck, summer's over...but now I'm entering school as a freshman again. That means, you guessed it!...college...!
My schedule is quite nice. On Mondays and Wednesdays (like today), I have Art Concepts at noon until 2:50. At 3 I have Drawing which is right next door. Today, I got out of Art Concepts fairly early (50 or so minutes), so I decided to take a stroll around the campus. I ended up going to the campus bookstore, getting a snack and cinnamon/vanilla espresso drink (fuck, I'm gonna be addicted to these now...) before heading in to the art department again. I sat down and played DS on a comfortable couch for the remainder of the time. Once in Drawing, we got a syllabus handed out, went over it, got assigned to make a viewfinder for Monday's class, then got dismissed. Drawing usually apparently goes from 3-6PM, but today it was more like 3-3:30PM, so that was nice. Probably just a "first day" thing...ah well, I'll take it! Now I'm home, relaxing and thinking of shit to do. Tomorrow I have Writing at 10 in the morning on North campus (not my usual one, about a mile away), then Intro to Ethics at 12:30 on South. More than enough time to get some food and walk to my class. Lots of exercise. Bringing my iPod. Pretty pumped for this semester.
Out.

Fuck, I haven't listened to Pulse Demon in a year. This is a blast from the past. Still great too.
Just sold 4 tapes/CDs on Discogs for 30 bucks...good stuff. Especially because I really didn't want them anymore. They were:
Hive Mind - Electricity Swamp CS Prurient - The History of Aids CD Deathpile - Final Confession CD Knurl - Magnetomotive CDr
I don't care if I got ripped off...I don't listen to this stuff. Should be clearing out unwanted noise stock every once in a while...so that's cool. Also sold a few copies of Blastorture to interested parties.
I take Paypal now...so if someone reading this wants a copy of something, I'm your man...gorefisted at gmail dot com to pay, gorefisted at hotmail dot com to contact. I don't actually believe anyone will...but it's worth a try.

[29 Jul 2007|04:16pm] |
So I guess I'll probably update this more as I now have a laptop, which I got for free from an excellent promotional drawing at my (now ex-)school. It's pretty nice and has wireless Internet, so that's nice. Only problem is the built-in mic input is pretty bad (I didn't even realize it had one). So to remedy this I purchased an iMic external soundcard and am gonna pay for it tomorrow.
I visited Ashley last Monday and stayed over until yesterday. It was a really good time, except most of the days were sorta boring! But we made up for the day boringness with night funness. I bought a lot of cool stuff, like a few games and CDs, and bought her a PS1 at Goodwill for 10 bucks...it even came with Final fucking Fantasy fucking Tactics in it! So that was good. We went out to eat a lot and got a lot of ice cream and we were also terrorized by her sister quite a bit, too. It was overall quite a good time and a (finally) very long time to spend with my love. I'm going back up in a week and a half to go to the Topsham Fair with her and some friends!
After that (8/7-8/9), I'm playing a show at the gallery (8/11) with Sharpwaist, Bereft, Tinnitustimulus, etc. Should be a good time. Speaking of playing shows, I am trying to refurbish my setup with some new and replacement things. Since I have lost my Eurorack's power supply, I recently bought a new Behringer Xenyx mixer which is basically the same thing. Looking forward to its arrival, which should be this week. I also got a generic pink noise generator (with only volume control and on/off switch...very barebones, yet very awesome) and some new patch cables. After all that's done, I'll be set to record in the comfort of my room at any time I'd like during my upcoming year in college. Since I have only 16 hours of school a week, I'm sure I'll get quite a bit done, noise-wise, which is, of course, very good as I have a few things to record for.
